Iridium GMDSS is a real-time emergency response system powered by the ground-breaking Iridium NEXT satellite network. It is the first and only truly global GMDSS solution, with coverage including the Arctic and Antarctic Sea Area A4.
Iridium GMDSS allows ships to send definitive location and identification information to a Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC), and with built in Safety Voice, speak to an RCC operator within 30 seconds of pressing the red distress button. In addition, Iridium SafetyCast proactively delivers important navigational and meteorological information to the vessel, to advise of hazards and support safety measures.
The service is delivered by the compact LT-3100S GMDSS terminal, developed by leading maritime safety equipment manufacturer, Lars Thrane. For the first time in history, mariners can sail in confidence with a global GMDSS service that has them covered, across all oceans of the world.
